Frequently Asked Questions

1. Your privacy is important to us and guaranteed. Upon receipt of a computer, the entire contents of all hard drives are erased using a program called DBAN. It uses the Department of Defense (DoD) 5220.22-M data sanitization method. If a hard drive fails during the sanitation process, the drive is destroyed.

2. Please contact us using the tab above or by calling 727-266-2007. A volunteer will arrange to pick the computer up or you can drop it off, whichever is most convenient.

3. Your donation may be tax deductible. Please check with your accountant or tax professional to be certain. A donation receipt will be sent for your monetary, computer, or computer peripheral donation. Please note: according to IRS Publication 526, donated household items must be of “good used condition or better” to be eligible for a tax deduction.

4.  Absolutely. The success of this organization depends on computer and monetary donations. Your contributions provide the operating capital necessary for reachIT.org to continue. Please click HERE to go to the Get Involved page and click on the Donate button to make a monetary contribution.

5. We are always in need of computer components and peripherals. Often, donated computers can be made operable if missing critical components or parts are replaced. Below is a list of the parts and components we always have need of:
- LCD flat-screen monitors (we do not accept CRT [old tube] monitors)
- Hard drives--either IDE/PATA or SATA (especially need 80 gig drives or larger)
- Video cards--Nvidia or ATI video card are most universal
- DVD/CD ROM Drives--internal or USB
- USB/Thumb Drives
- Power Supplies--preferable 300W or greater
- Computer memory
- Peripherals such as printers, mice, keyboards, speakers,  routers, cameras, etc.
